ELECTORAL MOMENTS

The race has begun for a seat in the lower house of the Mexican Republic. 18 candidates from 8 parties are running for the office.
These are times for promises of a better Mexico. Safety is the first priority, along with quality education for all. Job opportunities and sources of employment will be our biggest challenge, to include social security and pensions for all. These are among the thousands of proposals, which have been recounted numerous times in the history of Mexican political campaigns. Only now they are being put forward in a new color, a new tone with a clear voice directed at social minorities. When combined, these minorities constitute a new majority. One such consideration is support of Sexual Diversity, which for so many administrations, has been kept out of the legislature, far from any initiatives or bills, far from the minds of those who govern. We should all demand that Municipal Presidents, State Governors, and the President of the Republic, do more than just talk on the campaign trail with promises that there will be legislation for sexual diversity. We should demand the same rights as afforded all Mexican citizens. The same rights that are enshrined in our Magna Carta. It is time for those who call themselves representatives of the common citizen to represent all citizens. The Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) has for years maintained a struggle against the government. We must recognize that their work has always been good; however most of it has been motivated by personal gain. There has now emerged a new political player, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) which after a relentless struggle has become a reality. They have proposed a generic Sexual Reassignment Act which has been submitted for approval. This is one of many proposals and activities for our diverse community. Soon, in Cancún, our party, the PSD, will debate the right-wing parties. It will be called the 1st Local Social Forum on Sexual Diversity and will be held during election campaign. Now I invite you to consider all of the proposals from all parties, since they are the ones who represent us, but we must heed conscience, and use the power of your vote to effect change at the polls. July 5 is the time for change; election day is for you, not a day for the political parties. It is the day for our citizens, go out to exercise our right to vote and make change a reality. The forum will be held in the Political Hall at Batab Hotel, located on Avenue Chichen Itza between Uxmal and Tulum. The date is May 16 and 17 from 9:00 am to 6:00 p.m.
Topics to be discussed at the forum include: Transvestites, Transsexuals and the Transgendered at Work. Families of the century Homophobia Discrimination HIV
And remember MAY 17 is the official day for the fight against homophobia Do not forget to attend these events, no matter who promotes them, it's time to send out the message, being gay does not mean you’re sick, being transgendered does not mean you have you don’t have rights. Fortunately, we have the knowledge to bring change to society and all we ask is for everyone to share information.
